'Strictly' star Anton Du Beke ripped his trousers having 'too much fun' during live show

Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke had a pretty unfortunate wardrobe malfunction during the show’s semi-final, his celebrity partner Emma Barton has revealed.

While appearing on Strictly’s It Takes Two, the EastEnders actor told host Zoe Ball that the professional was having “so much fun” that he split his trousers on the dancefloor. But luckily, no one in the audience - or viewers watching at home, for that matter - seemed to notice.

“I did,” Du Beke confirmed, laughing that he thought something had gone wrong when he could suddenly feel a draft during their routine. “I was like, ‘Oh hello, that was a bit unexpected. Save yourself, on you go.’”

The 49-year-old then tactfully changed the subject, recalling how the pair were much more nervous about performing the Cha Cha Cha than they were a waltz later on in the episode.

“We knew what we were doing later with [that], so this was that end of the spectrum and the waltz was the other end of the spectrum. We got a bit frenzied doing Latin. There was fear and excitement, and we were really pleased with it,” he explained.

“Latin, I don’t think is my strong point,” Barton added. “I thought, ‘You know what? It’s a great tune we look great it was feel good, we’re opening the show... let’s have a party.”

Their enthusiasm paid off, as both dances earned Du Beke and Barton a place in Strictly’s upcoming final. The achievement marks the first time the former will have a shot at winning the Glitterball Trophy since he was paired up with newscaster Katie Derham in 2015.

Despite being the only professional on the show to have been in every series since Strictly’s debut in 2004, Du Beke landed his first 10-point score dancing with Barton. The twosome have never been in the dance-off either, which puts them in good stead to emerge victorious in the final.

On the night, they’ll be competing against CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden and Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday 14 December at 7:05pm on BBC One.
