'Stranger Things's Noah Schnapp Reacts to Critics of Will's Sexuality
“Leave Britney Alone!” has been updated to “Leave Will Alone!”
Actor Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers on Stranger Things, has responded to the criticism from fans that the character still hasn’t clarified his sexuality in the series.
Heading into season four, many viewers believed that Will would finally address his apparent queerness on Stranger Things. The fourth season then kept teasing that Will was on the verge of making a big confession at any given moment… but nothing was explained or even clarified all season long.
After a swarm of fans complained on social media about Will’s lack of coming out, Schnapp himself took to the comments section of a since-deleted TikTok video to provide his reaction to the complaints.
The actor wrote (re-shared by @willeIfilms on Twitter):
“First of all it’s the 80s and the kid’s a FRESHMAN in [high school]. Let them slowly develop the plot and when he does come out it will be really special and real.”
Indeed, a lot of fans were disappointed by Will not having any sort of “coming out” during this latest season of Stranger Things. All signs pointed in that direction, and most of Will’s scenes on the show turned out to be conversations that would’ve served as perfect setups for him to say something about it.
But after so many talks about “having honest conversations” and “being vulnerable” between Will and Mike, Will never actually told his best friend anything. The fans are still hoping that this will happen in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things – but season four did feel like the right time for this conversation to happen.
Well, the only option now is to wait for what’s to come. Apparently, it’s only a matter of time, and Schnapp’s comment furthers that notion even more.
