Stranger Things' Charlie Heaton responds to claims his character's been cut from season 4

Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things, has responded to claims his character has been minimised in season four.

After almost three years of waiting, Stranger Things season four dropped on Netflix last month and fans can't stop talking about it. From the plot hole around Eleven's voice to the anticipation for part two, fans have also been wondering where exactly Jonathan has got to.

The teenager, who is dating Nancy Wheeler (played by Natalia Dyer), appears in less scenes in the fourth season, and it hasn't gone unnoticed by viewers. As one put it, "I don't care what y'all think, they did Jonathan so dirty this season. His storyline is the most boring one, and he's not even in it."

Someone else put, "So, Will, Mike and Jonathan, where are y'all? The writers busy adding new characters they forget to involve the old, supposed to be the important ones in it."

Now, 28-year-old actor Charlie Heaton has responded to the complaints, explaining that with a big group cast, it's hardly surprising not everyone gets to be front and centre all of the time.

"I’ve definitely seen some forums like Screenrant or something – ‘What happened to the character?’" Charlie admitted to GQ." It is an ensemble cast, obviously every season they’ve brought in new characters, wonderful characters, and they’ve taken the story to different places."

He continued, "The Hawkins storyline this year is totally out of Nightmare On Elm Street. It’s really exciting to see the show go in that direction."

Well, that explains that one, then. How about a Jonathan/Nancy spin-off, please?

Stranger Things season 4 is now streaming on Netflix.
