Watch: Kurt Cobain's hair sells at auction

Strands of Kurt Cobain’s hair have sold for a staggering $14,145 (£9,994) at an auction over the weekend.

The Nirvana frontman’s locks went up for sale alongside some pictures of his ‘good friend’ Tessa Osbourne cutting his hair in 1989, proving that the locks were indeed from Cobain’s head.

Osbourne can be seen holding a pair of scissors while Cobain has his arm around her.

To add to the authenticity, the six strands of hair — the longest strand measuring at two and a half inches — have been given a certificate of authenticity by the World’s Largest Collection of Historic Hair, with curator John Reznikoff confirming that the strands did indeed belong to the grunge star.

Reznikoff reportedly obtained the hair from Osborne, who received them from Seattle-based artist Nicole DePolo, as a way to remember him by following his death.
