Stephen Mulhern statement in full as TV star collapses in restaurant and rushed to hospital after dad's death
TV star Stephen Mulhern collapsed at a pizza restaurant after what his spokesman called an "incredibly tough time over the past few weeks". The Deal or No Deal and Catchphrase presenter, 47, was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Last month, he postponed his shows at Butlins during the October half term due to his father Christopher's death.
In a statement released last night a spokesperson for Stephen told OK! that he had been drinking after being given anaesthetic during a procedure earlier in the week. This is the statement in full.
The rep said: "Stephen has had an incredibly tough time over the past few weeks. His beloved father recently passed away which has hit him hard and has been understandably very stressful.

"In addition he had a procedure which took place yesterday (Wednesday). Following the anaesthetic that was administered, he had a few drinks which made him unwell and he was taken in to hospital as a precaution. He is now back home recovering.“
Staff at Pizza Express became concerned for him and called 999 at around 8pm on Wednesday, The Sun reports. The star was checked over by paramedics - and put on the phone to his mum to reassure her he was OK.
The star was then taken from the restaurant in Sunningdale, a village in Berkshire, to the nearby Frimley Park Hospital to be checked over.
Stephen's career began with his dad, who introduced him to magic tricks when he was 11, practising while working on his market stall in London's East End. The family spent holidays at Butlin's in Somerset where he began performing in public, becoming the youngest ever member of the Magic Circle.
The star has previously said his parents were behind his early success, explaining: "I don’t mean to sound soppy, but they worked so incredibly hard to bring up me and my two brothers and sister."
