Designer Stella McCartney has been awarded a CBE from King Charles, in recognition of her service to the fashion industry and her work in sustainability.

Naturally, she represented her own label for the special occasion, wearing a custom, tailored navy dress handcrafted in her own London atelier. McCartney styled the classic dress with a pair of satin navy pumps from her brand's archive and a clutch bag. Both accessorises were crafted entirely from vegan materials – even down to the glue. She finished her look with a custom lace veil which was designed by British milliner Emily London.

The dress itself was sustainably made from Nativa – a traceable and regenerative Merino wool – which, during its production, prioritises animal welfare, protects the environment and helps to support its farmers and local communities.

"Humbled to be recognised for my mission to bring sustainability to fashion," McCartney said of her news. "As a British designer, this is such a proud and emotional day for me — not only to receive this incredible accolade from King Charles III, but also to have been included in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s final Birthday Honours."

McCartney is perhaps one of the most well-known sustainable designer names in the industry. She's worked hard to build up her eco-conscious label since launching it 2001, following in the footsteps of her mother, Linda McCartney, who was known for her animal-rights activism. Prior to starting her own label, she held the helm as creative director of Chloé for four years.

This isn’t the first time the fashion designer has been acknowledged by the royal family. In 2013, McCartney was awarded an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
