In March 1988, King Charles - then known as the Prince of Wales - travelled with friends to Klosters in Switzerland for a snow holiday. While skiing off-piste, the group was caught in an avalanche. Charles escaped the incident unharmed but his friend Hugh Lindsay died, and another member of the group, Patricia Palmer-Tomkinson, was seriously injured. In a 1994 documentary, Charles recalled when the avalanche hit the group, saying: "The next thing I heard was a voice shouting 'Jump!' Michael Schumacher
Schumacher's seven Formula 1 crowns made him a legend of the sport and he was known as a fearless driver. But since 29 December 2013, when he had a serious skiing accident in the French Alps, his legend became a mystery. The German sportsman was skiing in the Alpine resort of Méribel with his family when he went off-piste and hit his head on a rock. The impact was so severe that it shattered his helmet and caused severe head trauma, with intracranial haematomas and diffuse cerebral oedema. He was immediately taken by helicopter to a clinic in Moutiers, but after being stabilised he was transferred again, this time to a new medical centre in Grenoble, where he underwent a surgical procedure while in a coma. He remained there until June 2014, when the clinic reported that he had come out of the coma and was transferred to a hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, to continue his recovery at home. Little is known about his current condition, but in the Netflix documentary 'Schumacher', his wife Corinna said: "Private is private,' as he always said. It is very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael."©BANG Showbiz - 9/11

Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau
Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau - the second son of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus and brother of the current Netherlands monarch King William - was an atypical royal. Studious, with several university degrees and a great business career, he surprised the world by renouncing his dynastic rights to marry Mabel Wisse Smit. With no right to the throne, Johan Friso and his wife settled in London. A year after the wedding, Luana, the first-born child, was born, and in 2006, Zaria. Although Friso was an expert skier, on 17 February 2012 he was caught up in an avalanche and was trapped under the snow for 20 minutes. Rescuers reached him thanks to a device on his body that indicated his location. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed for almost an hour. He was taken to Innsbruck University Hospital, where he was admitted in a coma. The royal had suffered severe brain damage and never woke again. A year later, on 12 August 2013, Prince Friso died.©BANG Showbiz
