A private jet may be the most luxurious way to travel but with tonnes of C02 emissions it is also the least environmentally friendly. With rising sea levels brought on by global warming, it seems the jet-setter lifestyle comes at a price! From Kim Kardashian to Jay-Z, research by analytics agency Yard has proven the richest 1 per cent are responsible for over half of the carbon emissions thanks to their frequent and unnecessary private jet usage. 10. Travis Scott
Despite Kylie Jenner sparking a social media backlash after posting a picture of her alongside Travis Scott posing in a jet which was captioned “You wanna take mine or yours?”, the ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians ‘ star hasn’t even made the top 10 with an average flight time of just 24.5 minutes. Her partner Travis on the other hand has a total flight time of 8,384 minutes which has omitted 3033.3 tonnes of CO2e into the atmosphere this year. - 3/11
9. Oprah Winfrey
Television host Oprah Winfrey has already racked up a total of 3,493.17 tonnes of CO2 this year from the use of her $75 million private jet. That’s 499 times more than the average person's annual emission! So far Oprah has taken a total of 68 flights for an average of 81.13 minutes, with her shortest flight taking only 14 minutes and pumping more than one ton of CO2e into the atmosphere. - 4/11
8. Mark Wahlberg
The ‘Ted’ star may have the longest average flight time with 117.45 minutes per journey, but taking over 100 flights so far this year means he has omitted over 3772.85 tonnes of CO2e into the atmosphere, that’s 538.9 times more than the average person’s annual emission. - 5/11
7. Kim Kardashian
The ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star loves posing on her jet and has taken 57 flights this year. But her regular use has emitted 4268.5 tonnes of CO2. That’s 609.8 times more than the average person in a year. Kim’s shortest journey lasted 38 minutes across and pumped out more than 3 tonnes of CO2. - 6/11
6. Steven Spielberg
The legendary film director Steven Spielberg has taken 61 flights so far in 2022. That’s a total of 4,465 tonnes of CO2 emission, 637.9 times more than the average person's annual total. With an average flight time of 1 hour and 47 minutes, Spielberg's shortest flight was just 18 minutes long from Amsterdam to Rotterdam. - 7/11
5. Blake Shelton
The country singer and husband of Gwen Stefani has flown over 100 times so far this year and emitted a whopping 4495 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. That’s a staggering 642 times more than the average person produces in a year. - 8/11
4. Alex Rodriguez
Being the ex-fiance of global superstar Jennifer Lopez has rubbed off on A-Rod as the former baseball star as he has been enjoying the jet-setter lifestyle. Rodriguez is the fourth biggest CO2 polluter with a total of 106 flights taken so far this year, Alex has pumped out 5,342.7 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere - 763.24 times more than the average per person per annum. - 9/11
3. Jay-Z
Looks like Beyonce is partly to blame for her husband's high ranking. The 'Single Ladies' singer brought Jay-Z a $40 million private jet for Father’s Day back in 2012 and he made good use of the aircraft. The rapper has already taken 136 flights in 2022 – that’s 6,981.3 tonnes of CO2 emission, 997.3 times more the average person per year. - 10/11
2. Floyd Mayweather
The boxing legend nicknamed Money lives up to the name by living a million dollar lifestyle. So far Mayweather has taken a whopping 177 flights in 2022, which is an average of 25 flights a month. His shortest flight lasted just 10 minutes but emitted over a ton of CO2. Floyd’s grand total is 7,076.8 tonnes of CO2 – that’s 1,011 times more than the average person per year. - 11/11
1. Taylor Swift
Topping the list is the biggest CO2 offender of them all. Pop princess Taylor Swift has taken a staggering 170 flights this year alone racking up 22,923 minutes in flight time. Taylor’s CO2 emission for the year totals 8,293.54 tonnes, which is 1,184.8 times more than the average person across the year. A representative for Taylor said the heavy use was down to her loaning out the luxury aircraft. They said: “Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.”
