The upcoming film, which is due to be released on December 23 in the UK, is named after Houston's 1987 smash hit song 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)' and has been made in cooperation with the Houston estate, with Whitney's sister-in-law and former manager Pat Houston serving as a producer on the film.

Record producer Clive Davis, who signed Houston to Arista Records in 1983, is also a producer of the film, while the script has been penned by Academy Award-nominated writer Anthony McCarten, who previously wrote the scripts for the likes of Darkest Hour, Two Popes and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Alongside Ackie as Houston, the film also stars Stanley Tucci as Clive Davis, Ashton Sanders as Houston's husband Bobby Brown, Tamara Tunie as Houston's mother Cissy, Clarke Peters as Houston's father John and Nafessa Williams as Houston's former assistant and creative director Robyn Crawford.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody hits cinemas in the UK on December 23, 2022.
