Star Trek actor Annie Wersching dies aged 45
Actress Annie Wersching, who starred in 24 and the Star Trek series franchise, has died.
Wersching died aged 45 following a battle with cancer. She was first diagnosed in 2020.
Husband Stephen Full confirmed Wersching’s death to Deadline, saying in a statement: “There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it.
“She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you: ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall.”
Full added: "As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world.
“I can still hear it ringing. Bye, my Buddie. ‘I love you, little family…’”
Wersching has left behind three children, along with her husband, whom she married in 2009.
The St. Louis, Missouri native carved out an impressive career as an actress after securing her first roles in the TV series Star Trek: Enterprise, Charmed, Supernatural and the 2003 film Bruce Almighty.
Wersching bagged a recurring part in 24, starring opposite lead actor Kiefer Sutherland, and also appeared in Amazon Studio’s Bosch. She later went on to return to Star Trek, playing the Borg Queen in the Picard series.
The actress also did voice work for the Playstation game The Last of Us, which has been recently adapted into an HBO action-drama series.
Several stars have paid tribute to Wersching following the news of her passing.
Abigail Spencer, who played opposite Wersching in the series Timeless, wrote on Instagram: “The best scene partner. My arch #Timeless nemesis, where we could barely keep a straight face. This is a devastating loss to our community.
“She was the backbone of many of your favorite shows & ours. The ringer. When you needed someone to come in and kick ass or elevate a storyline or your lifeline: call Annie.
“This is so hard… Steve… no words. Sending you & the boys heaps of love & support.”
Co-president of Naughty Dog, the game company behind The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann tweeted: “Just found out my dear friend, Annie Wersching, passed away,” he wrote. “We just lost a beautiful artist and human being.
“My heart is shattered. Thoughts are with her loved ones.”
