Stacey Solomon was forced to take on ITV’s Loose Women hosting duties alone as presenter Andrea McLean stormed off set in protest at rumours that over 50s could be forced back into lockdown, under potential new COVID rules.

Andrea was leading the panel alongside Denise Welch and Stacey Solomon where they debated the headlines about the potential new strict guidelines speculating that over-50s self-isolating as part of a second lockdown.

Andrea demonstrated her opposition to the suggestion by storming off set along with Denise who is also over 50. She said, "If Boris does decide to lockdown the over 50s, we’d be gone Denise – Stacey, you would be on your own.”

Stacey was dismayed saying, "Charming! It’s just you and me Penny,” as Penny Lancaster, 49, joined the show via video link.

Since the initial stories broke, Health Secretary Matt Hancock played down the rumours saying, "The reports with respect to the over-50s are inaccurate and they're speculation, but we'll always do whatever is necessary to keep people safe."

Later on in the show, Stacey voiced her unhappiness at the potential new lockdown advice saying “I feel like the over 50s – not everyone in the over 50 is vulnerable and not everybody under 25 is going to break the rules. I always find it really annoying when we categorise people and we group people because I know lots of mature, sensible 15 to 25-year-olds who do abide by the rules and do want this pandemic to be over.

“I know a lot of people my grandparent's age (who say), ‘Oh well, I’m not wearing a mask.' I don’t think you can say one group is like this and one group is like that,” she continued.

The panel also sent a heartfelt message to their colleague Coleen Nolan as her older sisters Linda and Anne both battle cancer.

"We want to send a really special message to our Coleen and her family," Andrea said. "Now, Cole, we know you're watching from home and we want to say that we are sending you lots of love and strength as your sisters Linda and Anne are currently undergoing chemotherapy together."
