Stacey Solomon has shared the emotional hidden meaning behind her new dog Teddy’s name.

The Loose Women presenter recently welcomed a new pet pooch to Pickle Cottage after the death of her beloved dog, Theo, over Christmas.

Now, a new six-month-old cocker spaniel has joined the family to keep their other dog, Peanut, company.

In a sweet message introducing the pet to her 4.9 million followers, she opened up about her departed pup’s legacy.

In a post titled All About Teddy, she wrote: “We called him Teddy because Teddy can be short for 'Theodore' so we thought it was a special tribute to Theo.”

Explaining their process behind bringing the rescue dog home, she added: “We didn't pick him out but we said we would take any dog suitable for young children and another dog.

"We didn't mind what breed, colour, coat anything as long as he would be happy and it was right. And along came Teddy."

On his rescue status, she said: "I have no idea why or how anyone could not want him or he wouldn't be 'good' enough.

“But apparently he is nowhere near the size he should be for his breed and that was one of the main reasons why he wasn't kept by the breeder.”

Stacey introduced the new member of the family to her Instagram followers on Tuesday, accompanied by a picture of her clutching new pup Teddy and existing pooch Peanut.

“Welcome Home Teddy,” she began. “Last night we rescued a dog. But today I’m not sure who has rescued who 🥺 We miss you so much Theo 👼🏼.

”I hope you’re looking down from heaven smiling, knowing that peanut will no longer be so very lonely and that a doggy who really needed a family now has one 🐾🖤.

“To the moon and back, always.”

At the end of December, Stacey posted a heartfelt announcement that her 11-year-old dog had died.

In the tribute, she called Theo her “best protector”.

“Our hearts are utterly broken,” she wrote. “She was just the best dog in the world who adored the boys and Rose. I can't even begin to explain how lost I feel without her.”
