Spanish campsite launches coronavirus-free ‘paradise’ zone for holidaymakers
A campsite in Spain has created an “ultra safe” area for guests who don’t have coronavirus.
Trillas Platja Tamarit in Tarragona, a port town on the north-east coast near Barcelona, has introduced Covid-19 tests on arrival for guests who wish to access the “Paradise” zone.
Only those who test negative can stay in this special section of the campsite, which has 40 mobile homes, 10 pitches, beach views, a sports area, swimming pool, restaurant and entertainment.
The campsite will subsidise the test, but guests will still have to pay €100 per person if they wish to take it.
Inspired by similar schemes in South Korea, the Paradise zone will open later in July, with fast-tracked testing ensuring holidaymakers get their results in six hours.
They must wait in a holding zone in the meantime, wear masks and practice social distancing.
Anyone who tests positive will be taken to hospital or instructed to immediately self-isolate.
But those who test negative can enjoy their holiday without the need to wear a mask or stay 1 metre away from other guests while in the designated safe zone.
A spokesperson from the campsite told The Mirror that the scheme would “allow the essence of the human relations, one of the greatest attractions of the camping experience, without masks or fear of approaching other people,” plus “make it feasible to enjoy a vacation experience in camping in complete freedom, without additional security measures.“
The firm stressed that rigorous hygiene practices would still be used throughout the site to keep guests safe.
Spain reopened its borders to British holidaymakers from 21 June.
Since 4 July, the Foreign Office has lifted its warning against all non-essential travel there, and as of 10 July travellers entering England from Spain will no longer be subject to a mandatory two-week quarantine.
