Prepare to make some space on your bookshelf because Sally Rooney is releasing a brand new book later this year. There's not a single person who didn't adore her 2017 debut Conversations With Friends or Marianne and Connell's complex love story as told in the recently adapted Normal People, so we're sure her upcoming novel, Beautiful World, Where Are You, will be another literary triumph.
Published by Faber and due for release on September 7, the book follows novelist Alice and her friend Eileen. While Alice meets a guy named Felix, Eileen, fresh from a break up, starts texting a childhood friend. Like Normal People, much of Eileen and Alice's friendship plays out over email. The books official synopsis reads:
Alice, a novelist, meets Felix, who works in a warehouse, and asks him if he’d like to travel to Rome with her. In Dublin, her best friend Eileen is getting over a break-up, and slips back into flirting with Simon, a man she has known since childhood.
Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young – but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart. They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in. Are they standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something? Will they find a way to believe in a beautiful world?
Meanwhile, Faber publisher Alex Bowler told The Guardian it's “a book of friendship and sex, art and faith, power and love. It absorbs you once again in the inner lives of characters with brilliant minds and aching hearts, while marking the next creative leap from a singular writer. The book scintillates with intelligence, empathy and, yes, beauty.” Sounds great, right?

With Conversations with Friends also getting the TV treatment following the success of the BBC adaptation of Normal People, we think it's only a matter of time before Beautiful World, Where Are You is also being lined up for our viewing pleasure. We can't wait.
