Sophie Turner's 'wispy bangs' are very now

We're used to Sophie Turner showcasing hair colour transformations; she often switches between blonde – the colour she was born with, and red – the shade she became synonymous with since playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones.

But the actress tends to maintain a consistency with her haircut; it's nearly always a chest-skimming long length and styled in a centre or deep side parting with mermaid-worthy waves. So, her latest look is a true head-turner.

Stepping out in New York City last week the star revealed a long fringe, cut into her flowing locks. A subtle yet distinct makeover, the feathery fringe frames Turner's face beautifully with her rich auburn tones, a shade that's always been popular for the autumn/winter season, and even more so in 2022 since it's trended in A-list circles.

While this time last year, 'curtain bangs' were being cut into people's hair left, right and centre, now 'wispy bangs' are having a moment. Globally renowned hairstylist Nicky Lazou explains the trend that Turner has adopted.

"Wispy bangs are a perfect way to frame the face in a gentle way that is less harsh than the traditional full fringe." She says that this hairstyle "adds an element of softness to your face and makes an impact by highlighting the cheekbones". Though fringes can seem like a big commitment, she says the cut can be versatile. "You can have as much freedom as you like with this style; adjust the length of the bangs depending on your desired look. This look also offers many options when choosing what to do with the rest of your hair; leaving all of your hair down will add a gentle touch around your face whilst tying the hair up and leaving the bangs out creates a powerful, eye-catching look."

When having a fringe cut it's always advisable to have a consultation with your hairdresser to identify the perfect style to suit your face shape and lifestyle. Should you opt for a wispy fringe like Turner's, Lazou recommends using hair straighteners to help "create the perfect curve around your face". He favourite as the Au Luminosity Titanium Hair Straightener from Razzl Dazzl Hair, which allow for a luxurious finish; "the ion-coated plates retain your hair’s natural moisture and keep it from feeling dry leaving your hair like velvet" – though you should always protect your hair before heat styling with a product like the Kérastase Genesis Defense Thermique Heat Protector.
