Sophie Turner was banned from washing her hair on Game of Thrones

Sophie Turner has revealed she was asked to stop washing her hair during season five of Game of Thrones.

‘For the first few seasons I was allowed to wash my hair because I was an aristocratic young girl,’ the 22-year-old told InStyle magazine this week.

‘Towards season five they started asking me to not wash my hair and it was really disgusting,” she added.

The actor described the experience as “really itchy” and “disgusting”, adding that paper particles from the on-set snow machines would “get stuck in the grease” of her hair.

She said that she was later granted permission to wear a wig.

“But yes, for a couple of years I was living with pretty greasy hair," she added.

Turner, who is engaged to singer Joe Jonas, has previously opened up about how the process of dying her hair from red to her natural blonde during filming.

"A few years ago, I was trying to go back from red to blonde, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig,” she told Glamour.

“They wouldn’t let me dye it back red or my hair would’ve fallen out.”

Earlier this week, HBO announced it will air the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones on 14 April.

The television network also released a teaser depicting Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Sansa (Turner), and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) walk through the Winterfell catacombs before an icy air courses through the tunnel as it appears the White Walkers have arrived.
