Can someone make us these snowman cakes, please
Real snow is great and all, but do you know what's better? These adorable snowmen made out of meringue.
Created by the geniuses over at Kawaii Cakes: Adorable and Cute Japanese-Inspired Cakes and Treats, author Juliet Sears says in the book, "I love these adorable snowmen with their oversized heads - they are so special. They were inspired by some little kawaii keyrings I saw on Pinterest. They're delicious treats and eat to make."
And LOOK how cute!
To make them, you'll need:
150g icing sugar
150g caster sugar
6 medium free-range egg whites
large piping bag fitted with large round piping nozzle
75g white sugar paste
soft-peak white Royal Icing, in a piping bag fitted with a number 2 round nozzle, for sticking
Soft-peak black Royal Icing in a piping bag fitted with a number 1.5 round nozzle, for face details
A little soft-peak pink Royal Icing, in a piping bag fitted with a number 1.5 round nozzle
Red and blue editable food pens
As for the method?
Trace the snowman shapes on some packing parchment and turn it over. Line 2 backing trays with the parchment.
Make meringue with the icing sugar, caster sugar and egg whites. Place the meringue mix in the piping bag with the large nozzle.
Pipe over the templates to fill the body and head, making them nice and chubby.
Bake for 30 minutes. Reduce the over temperature to 90 degrees and bake for a further 30 minutes until dry, but with a slightly chewy centre. Turn off the oven and leave there until completely cool, about 20-30 minutes, to fully dry out, but not to colour - you need the white to stay as light as possible.
To make the scarves, dust your work surface with icing sugar. Roll out the sugar paste fairly thinly. Cut long and short strips of the paste about 1cm wide. You can use a knife to gently cut fringing into the ends of the scarves.
Pipe a tiny bit of white royal icing onto the necks of the snowmen, then stick on the scarves.
Pipe the face and button details with black and pink royal icing, and draw stripes onto the scarves with the red and blue edible pens. Leave to dry for a few hours. These will keep for up to 1 week if stores in an airtight container or wrapped in a food bag.
Wa-laaah!
