Jacket potatoes are the best. There’s just something so cosy and homely about sitting down to a steaming hot baked potato. Plus, the choice of toppings you can have is endless. I’m very much a tuna mayo kind of a gal, but I’ve certainly been known to get stuck into chilli con carne jacket potatoes. Not that you asked…

But how do you cook yours? Do you always stick your potatoes in the oven, or are you a fan of microwaving them? You can’t beat the speed and convenience, let’s be honest.

But have you ever thought of cooking them in your slow cooker? A number of slow cooker fans swear by it.

Oh, and there's no reason you can't cook a sweet potato in a slow cooker too, by the way,

So, we’ve drawn you in by saying it can be done. But how can it be done, that’s what you want to know, right? Well, it actually couldn’t be simpler. And all you need is baking potatoes, some olive oil and foil. Salt and pepper’s a nice touch too, mind you.

  • Wash and dry each potato.
  • Prick the potatoes with a fork and rub each one with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Wrap each potato in aluminium foil and place the potatoes in the slow cooker in one even layer.
  • Pop the lid on, and cook on high for 4 – 5 hours depending on the size of the potatoes. Halfway through cooking, turn the potatoes over so they’re cooked evenly.
  • To check the potatoes are cooked all the way through, stick a knife into one of the potatoes. If it slides out easily, the potatoes are cooked.

Now you just have to pick a topping. In fairness, that’s probably the hardest part of all of this…
