A slice of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's original wedding cake is going on sale
A slice of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's lavish wedding cake will be sold at auction 40 years after it was served at the royal wedding — but it will cost you £500.
The large commemorative slice, which measures eight by seven inches, looks incredibly grand featuring the royal coat-of-arms coloured in gold, red, blue, and silver. One of the 23 official wedding cakes, the slice has been preserved with cling film inside an old cake tin for four decades by Moyra Smith — a member of the Queen Mother's household at Clarence House.
Moyra, who sold the cake to a collector in 2008, attached a handmade label to the lid which read: "Handle with Care - Prince Charles & Princess Diane's [sic] Wedding Cake."
The slice will go under the hammer on Wednesday 11th August and is expected to fetch up to £500. It might look intact, but auctioneers advise the lucky buyer to avoid eating the slice.
"It appears to be in exactly the same good condition, but we advise against eating it," said Chris Albury from Gloucestershire's Dominic Winter Auctioneers, reports the BBC.
As well as the cake, other items going under the hammer next week include an order of service, ceremonial details and a royal wedding breakfast programme.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana married at St Paul's Cathedral on 29th July 1981, but separated 11 years later in 1992, and divorced in 1996.
