Sky unveils new Sky Glass TV that promises two things and sees the end of one viewing hang-up
Sky has unveiled the second generation of television which promises "better picture and sound" than its predecessors. The new Sky Glass TV boasts a "brighter picture and a bolder sound," according to the telly company.
Sky announced the brand new addition on Tuesday. Sky Glass Gen 2 features an even more vivid and captivating 4K HDR screen and an enhanced seven-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system built in.
The latest addition will also see viewers wave goodbye to a British tech staple - the humble satellite dish. Sky Glass is the only TV that comes with Sky TV built in - meaning no dish or box is needed to stream over Wi-Fi.

In fact, everything you need to set up Sky Glass is in one box. All you do is take it out, put it on the stand, connect to Wi-Fi, and that's you - settle down and enjoy viewing of your choice with just one wire.
Booming cinematic sound, a crystal clear picture, a wider viewing angle, an immersive picture and a more accurate display are some of the aspects of the fresh drop to look forward to.
From helicopters flying overhead to, a stadium filled with applause, viewers can experience it all from the comfort of their sofa, Sky assures. And it even speaks back to you.
Sky Glass listens and responds when viewers say “Hello Sky…”. People use it to find Sky shows, search for actors or genres, turn Sky Glass on and off, up the volume, fast forward, or simply pause.
Feeling the pinch, but tempted to get in on the action? Sky Glass claims Gen 2 is "more affordable than ever'. For instance, Sky’s new Essential TV pack, gives new customers a taste of Sky for £15 a month.
Elsewhere, people can pay for the new Sky Glass like a mobile phone, either all in one go, or spread the cost with interest-free monthly payments from £14 per month. They can also choose the length of TV subscription they want.
Sky Glass Gen 2 will be available to buy from February 12 at Sky.com, Sky’s stores, Sky call centres and Currys.co.uk.
"We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps," Fraser Stirling, Global Chief Product Officer for Comcast and Sky said.
"The new Sky Glass Gen 2 gives people our best TV experience yet, with a brighter picture and even more cinematic sound, and with flexible ways to buy it, it's more affordable than ever to get Sky TV.”
It comes not long after Sky confirmed the future of four popular TV channels following a string of shutdowns. Many channels that were popular in the 2000s have already been taken off air.
