Mushrooms are well known for their health benefits, and over the past year, have cropped up in an assortment of powder blends and supplements.

"The beauty industry has been embracing the trend of superfoods for quite some time now, and mushrooms certainly are one of those. Even if you don't like eating them, you sure will want them in skincare!" Wǒ founder Karen Lee-Thompson insisted. "Generally speaking, mushrooms extracts can offer excellent moisture, soothe and soften the skin, and are also a fantastic source of anti-oxidant properties."

Though many different varieties of mushrooms are incorporated into skincare formulas, reishi mushroom extract is one of the most popular, with Karen an advocate of using Tremella Fuciformis, also known as snow fungus, as an ingredient in her products, such as the Power TonIQ Anti-Blemish Essence.

"It's a unique mushroom extract that contains a polysaccharide that acts as a natural alternative to hyaluronic acid to help soften and moisturise the skin," the beauty expert continued, noting that another variety called Fomes Officinalis is used in the Power TonIQ Pore Refining Essence.
