A COLLISION on the M62 is causing four miles of congestion and large delays as we approach rush hour.

Emergency services are reportedly on the scene following a two vehicle crash on the M62 eastbound.

The incident took place between junction eight, Burtonwood, and junction nine, Winwick.

Lanes three and four have been closed, with the north west branch of National Highways initially estimating four miles of congestion causing 70 minutes of delays above normal travel time. This is now looking closer to 70 minutes of delays as queues continue to build following the crash.

According to Traffic England, normal traffic conditions are expected by 9 am but this is subject to change.

A spokesperson for National Highways said:  "There was a two-vehicle collision at 7.32am.

"Lanes 3 and 4 are closed eastbound to allow for safe recovery of the vehicles, and clear-up.

"We’re currently seeing delays of around 65 minutes eastbound, and six miles of congestion."

Cheshire Police have been contacted for comment.
