The Sinner season 4 dropped on the streaming service last week, and immediately people started asking for a fifth instalment of the hit show. Well, the bad news is that gripping drama has been cancelled and is set to end after the fourth series, prompting unhappy fans to take to Twitter to voice their frustration.

In case you've not spent the weekend glued to your TV, the thriller series follows Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he investigates various murder cases and tries to analyse the reasons behind ordinary people committing heinous crimes.

In the fourth season, he's investigating the disappearance of Percy Muldoon (Alice Kremelberg) in the village of Maine; a mystery that takes him down a rabbit hole of family secrets and lies.

Viewers have already been raving about how The Sinner gets better each and every season, which leading us all to the question: Will The Sinner get a season five?

Sadly, no: this is the last outing for Harry Ambrose. Back in November 2021, series creator Derek Simonds announced season four was intended to be the last series of The Sinner. In a statement, he said (via TVLine):

"It's been a huge pleasure and a privilege to be able to tell the kind of stories we have on The Sinner these past four seasons.

"[Universal Content Productions] and USA have been ideal partners and continually supportive of our creative goals, and I'm so pleased to complete Harry Ambrose's dramatic series-long arc as we intended in this final season.

"A huge thank you to my partner-in-crime, Bill Pullman, and to the talented actors, writers, directors, and crew who gave their all to help realise this show. It's been an incredible journey."

Look, we get it, even our favourite shows have to come to an end at some point, but for a lot of fans this felt just a little premature, and they took to Twitter to make it clear they weren't happy.

We're all still pretty invested in Harry Ambrose and his investigations, plus given that people felt season 3 was a bit of a letdown, aren't we owed at least one more instalment to make up for it?!

The Sinner seasons 1 - 4 are now available on Netflix.
