According to True Rescue in Mount Juliet, Tenn., a kitten born with four ears arrived at the facility on July 30.
The rescue shared the unusual news in a Facebook post, which included several ear-related puns.
"EXTREMELY RARE so lend me your ears (snicker)! This kitten came into our shelter today with his 3 other siblings, and he has a rare genetic mutation having been born with FOUR EARS! You "heard" me right (snort)!" the rescue wrote on social media, alongside two photos of the young orange tabby.
The photos show the kitten's two extra — and smaller — ears, which appear inside the feline's more prominent ears.
WKRN reported that the kitten, whom the rescue named Audio, arrived at True Rescue with three other felines, who had all been found abandoned in a box.
"Whenever we took him out of his carrier, my counterpart said, 'What's on his ear?' And when we looked closer, it appears as if Audio has actually four ears on his head, so he has two right facing and two rear facing. It's extremely abnormal," Kristin Condite, True Rescue's director of operations, told the outlet about how the staff first learned about Audio's extra parts.

Audio the kittenCondite added that the arrival of this unusual and adorable kitten is perfectly timed as the rescue just went through a "frustrating week." Due to "drainage problems and foundation issues," True Rescue sustained water damage on July 28 and 29 that affected its supplies and available space.

Thanks to generous donations and assistance from animal lovers, True Rescue is working through the issues created by the water damage. However, the nonprofit is still grateful to have Audio as an enjoyable distraction.
True Rescue added on Facebook that Audio is around 8 weeks old, weighs 2 pounds, and is
"simply ear-resistible."

"We will have him fully checked by a vet, but from what we know, the inner ear is completely normal and will cause no issues, other than having extra flaps to clean!" the rescue added in its post.
Because of Audio's upcoming vet visits, he is not available for adoption yet, but True Rescue has plenty of pets, including kittens, who are looking for a home right now.
