The 60-year-old former BBC newsreader confirmed his engagement to the 61-year-old General Hospital actor last month, and claimed they were planning a spring wedding for 2022.

Samms has now posted a picture of herself wearing a white beaded gown and holding a bouquet, arm-in-arm with McCoy captioned: "Yesterday was a very good day #mrandmrs"

McCoy thanked his 67.2k Twitter followers for their congratulations, saying: "Twitter can be a lovely place. @EmmaSamms1 - my wife - and I are so happy. Thank you for all your kind messages."

Among those to wish the couple all the best was Scottish comedian and TV presenter Susan Calman, who commented: "Amazing!!! Congrats to you!!"

Samms – best known for playing Fallon Carrington in 80s hit Dynasty – is McCoy’s third wife.

The newsreader welcomed a son named Max with his first wife in 1993, then in 2007 tied the knot with BBC South West presenter Victoria Graham.

Graham and McCoy went their separate ways in 2019.

Samms has been married three times – to Bansi Nagji from 1991 to 1992, to Tim Dillon from 1994 to 1995 and to John Holloway from 1996 to 2003. She has two children from her relationship with Holloway.

Earlier this year, the actor praised McCoy, saying he had been “absolutely amazing” in the way he helped her to deal with the long-term effects of COVID.

Samms, who contracted the virus in March 2020, told Hello! magazine: "Simon has been absolutely amazing, taking me to the hospital and waiting outside for hours, and just doing as much as he possibly could to help.

"He's given me emotional support, too; I'll never be able to thank him enough for his kindness."
