Simon Cowell vows to 'save' Mel B after offering her £1.8million contract

Simon Cowell has vowed to “save” his friend Mel B amid her divorce drama, offering the former Spice Girl a TV contract worth almost £2million so that she will stay on as a judge on America’s Got Talent for another year.

It had previously been claimed that Mel was facing the axe as scandalous details of her marriage to Stephen Belafonte hit the headlines, however, Simon has reportedly insisted that she remains on the show.

Confirming that Mel will be on the next season of the talent show, Simon told The Mirror: “It’s been amazing with Mel. I’ll be honest she can be a pain but she has a good heart.

“With this panel I wouldn’t change anything and I won’t be changing anything.”

A source close to the father-of-one added: “Simon has really been there for Mel and cares about her a lot. He thinks she is very talented and a brilliant judge.

“It’s her natural place to be back on the show next year and he’s insistent he gets her back.”

Mel is expected to earn a staggering £1.8million from her new contract, which comes following claims that she had blown her fortune and was left with just £961 in the bank.

Earlier this year, the lawyer representing Stephen in his and Mel’s bitter divorce case told the court that Mel racked up tax debts after making “improvident” financial decisions.

It was claimed that she would “never have money at the end of the year to pay their taxes” and despite living an “affluent” lifestyle, she’d lost most of her worth, which was said to be £38million, “if not more”.

Stephen has also accused the star of “cocaine and alcohol addiction” in shocking court documents, claiming that Mel’s secret battle is the real reason for their marriage breakdown, with the declaration being filed at Los Angeles Superior Court alongside copies of dozens of text messages between Stephen, Mel, and Beverly Hills marriage therapist Dr. Charles Sophy.

According to The Sun, Stephen writes in the court document: “The biggest reason for my concern with respect to the safety of the children was due to the Petitioner’s [Mel B’s] habitual and consistent addiction to and abuse of cocaine and alcohol…

“I did not want Petitioner using drugs and drinking around the children especially without anyone else present to care for the children.”

The document also claims that Mel was taking Antabuse, a drug that helps alcoholics combat their addiction, in order to care for her children, six-year-old Madison, 10-year-old Angel, and Phoenix, 18.

Meanwhile, Mel has been granted a restraining order against her estranged husband after alleging that he physically, sexually and emotionally abused her throughout their 10-year marriage – claims that Stephen has denied.
