Phew – it’s a been a rollercoaster of a week for all those watching new thriller The Victim on BBC One. The drama starring Kelly Macdonald, John Hannah and James Harkness came to a heart-wrenching conclusion on Thursday night and viewers immediately took to social media to rave about it.

One viewer exclaimed “The Victim was literally one of the best dramas I have ever watched. The last episode especially was fantastic, so brilliantly wrote and acted. I was in tears.”

While another agreed. Calling the final episode an “absolute masterclass of scriptwriting, direction and acting from James Harkness and Kelly Macdonald.”

The drama, created and written by Rob Williams, tells a traumatic tale. One Halloween Craig Myers (James Harkness) is accused on social media of being a convicted child killer and then violently attacked in his home. It looks like the dead boy’s mother Anna Dean (Kelly Macdonald) may have incited the attack and a detective (John Hannah) is intent on getting to the truth.

The drama unfolded across four consecutive nights this week. With fans taking to Twitter each evening to share theories on where they thought the twisting thriller may lead. But the answers – like Macdonald’s facial expressions – weren’t always easy to decipher.

In fact, Macdonald told Zoe Ball on her radio show that “My resting face is a grief face. People are always asking ‘are you ok?'”

All three of the main stars will be back on our screens very soon. The Trainspotting actress will next be seen playing Princess Margaret in the third series of Sky’s Urban Myths comedy series.

John Hannah will return to the BBC next week in the second season of Trust Me.
