Shawn Mendes has given fans an insight into his split from girlfriend of two years Camila Cabello in his latest song 'It'll Be Okay'. The 'Señorita' singer released the song exactly two weeks after the breakup was announced, and in it, he opens up about the emotional split.

To fans Camila and Shawn seemed completely solid, they often appeared on red carpets together, posted joke-y PDA videos and were regularly photographed during lockdown on early morning coffee walks together. So, their split came as a surprise to many.

Taking to Instagram Stories the couple released a joint statement explaining that they would continue to be "best friends" but that their romantic relationship was over.

After weeks of speculation surrounding the cause and circumstances of the breakup Shawn has opened up about what went down in his emotional new song 'It'll Be Okay'.

The song opens with the lyrics, "Are we gonna make it? / Is this gonna hurt? / Oh, we can try to sedate it / But that never works."

Later in the track he sings the lyrics, "the future we dreamed of is fading to black," and, "If you tell me you're leaving / I'll make it easy / It'll be okay / If we can't stop the bleeding" / "We don't have to fix it / We don't have to stay / I will love you either way."

The heartfelt lyrics seem to be a clear reference to the emotional breakup between the pair, and reinforce the joint statement they put out, that there is still love between them, even if their romantic relationship has run its course.

The super emotional lyrics have got fans feeling a lot of feelings, especially after Camila herself shared the song on her Instagram Story.

Brb, we're off to do a bit of crying ourselves.
