The news of a Sex and the City revival is big, but the lead stars' salaries are apparently even bigger.
Variety reports that Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis are each set to make $1 million (around £736,000) per episode for the upcoming HBO Max limited series. With 10 episodes in the works, that means each star could be making $10 million for the whole project. HBO and the actresses' reps haven't confirmed the news, though Variety sites multiple sources for the data.
The sizeable paycheque is expected for a TV show of this stature, particularly on a streaming site. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show on Apple TV+), Nicole Kidman (Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu), Kerry Washington (Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu), and Steve Carrell (Space Force on Netflix) received similar salaries for their shows, according to a 2019 report from the Chicago Tribune.
Parker, Nixon and Davis are set to reprise their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York, respectively, as well as executively produce the show. Titled And Just Like That..., the reboot will follow the leading trio as they navigate life, love, and friendships in their 50s. As previously reported, Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, is sadly not returning.
We don't have a release date yet, but the series is set to begin production in the spring in New York. Michael Patrick King, who directed both Sex and the City movies, will also serve as executive producer.
After years of waiting, news of a SATC reboot became official this week, when HBO and the lead stars made the big announcement on social media. "I couldn’t help but wonder... where are they now?" Parker wrote on Instagram.
The actress also chimed in on Cattrall's absence. "Samantha isn't a part of this story. But she will always be a part of us," she said in response to one of her IG comments. "No matter where we are or what we do."
