Watch: Car crashes into Chelmsford Aldi store

Several shoppers were injured after a car smashed into an Aldi supermarket in Chelmsford breaking signs and windows.

The white car smashed into the store on Wednesday afternoon.

The SUV was moving fast enough to smash through the glass windows and completely enter the building, throwing signs and adverts all over the shop floor.

Several people were hit by the speeding vehicle and thrown to the floor.

It then reversed at speed out of the shop.

An Essex Police spokesman told the Basildon Canvey Southend Echo they were contacted shortly after 12pm.

They said: "The vehicle collided with the front of the building causing significant damage to the store. Several members of the public also received minor injuries."

Five ambulances were present at the time of the crash.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and asking anyone with photos of the incident to come forward.
