You’ll likely know Trinny Woodall from her early noughties TV fame, where she taught a generation of women what not to wear with her with her loveable (ok, incredibly direct) approach and amazingly ruthless fashion tips. Safe to say, she became somewhat of a best-friend figure for many of us. And more recently, we’re delighted to have Trinny back in our lives via her incredibly successful beauty brand, Trinny London.

Trinny's eponymous brand swiftly became our go-to by pin-pointing exactly what we truly want from a beauty line: fuss-free and effective products that genuinely work, whatever your age or skin type.

Since she made her mark with the fan-favourite Stacks – pots of portable lipstick, blushes and more that satisfyingly click together into a tower – the brand has become a beacon for easy products that you can apply in a hurry with little more than your fingers.

Now, Trinny is applying her no-fuss ethos to skincare. Finding what works for your complexion can be a minefield, especially when we’re bombarded by marketing jargon that no one really understands. Well, Trinny’s meticulously edited curation of skincare essentials cuts the confusion by offering simple, universally crowd-pleasing products that deliver results you can actually see – and the latest addition to the line-up is one sure to appeal to the masses.

Any fan of Trinny’s will know she’s enthralled by skincare. Here's what she had to say about her new Plump Up Peptide + HA Serum...

What is the Plump Up Peptide + HA Serum?

In the works for three years, the Plump Up serum is designed to hydrate and firm skin. While one of our favourite hydrating heroes, hyaluronic acid, takes centre stage, it's the peptides that really set this serum apart from the rest.

'Peptides are amazing, and one of the least understood skincare ingredients', says Trinny. Essentially, they are a form of amino acid which increases the production of proteins in our skin, keeping it youthful and bouncy. In your twenties, your skin is full of collagen and elastane: two proteins which make the skin feel plump and firm. As we age, our levels decrease by around 10% each year, which is where peptides come in.

'I really like to use the word growth: peptides are about growth,' explains Trinny. 'One of the most important things I want to have in my skin is plumpness. It's about that cushion and how thick the collagen is.' As Trinny likes to call it ‘the support bra for your skin’, the Plump Up serum has a six-peptide complex (including hexapeptide-9 and oligopeptide-1, to be exact) which works to make skin look smooth, healthy and plump after a few weeks of application.

It’s easy to get lured in by a skincare product that feels nice on the skin, but not all deliver in the long run. A lot of the time, brands prioritise the sensorial properties of a formula over the actual results - but not Trinny. 'I always want us to start with the ingredients and then work on how the product feels so we are able to have a combination of both'. Hence why the serum doesn’t only feel super refreshing and awakens the skin (it’s amazing to use in the morning), but works incredibly hard to hydrate and firm.

Who can use the Plump Up Serum?

The simplest answer: absolutely everyone. No matter what your skin type is, the formula is fragrance-free and so gentle that even the highly sensitive can use it.'There is nobody who won’t benefit from it'” says Trinny. 'It is so universal: that’s what I love about it. 'I'm most excited for the literally 30% of people in the UK who have some form of redness in their skin and have to be a bit careful, knowing that they can use this.'

How should you use the Plump Up Serum?

While there really is no “rule book” on how to apply a product that’s so favourable to all skin types, Trinny suggests that you should use an acid exfoliator - like the Find Your Balance BHA Exfoliant - to really allow the serum to absorb properly. 'No one should invest in a serum if you don’t exfoliate your face.

As serums have such a small molecule size 70%, of the product won’t go in if your skin is congested in dead cells'.

If you follow Trinny on Instagram - and if you don't, do - you’ll already be acquainted with the insane operation that is her skincare cupboard (yes, we obsess over it on the regular). You could spend hours scrolling through her side-splitting sketches or chit-chats through her wardrobe, but when it comes to sharing her everyday skincare routine, Trinny means business.

Of course, everyone's skincare routine is so subjective, but from the expert herself, here’s exactly how she uses her Plump Up Serum in her skincare routine:

A/M:

Step 1: Cleanse with the ‘Better Off’ AHA/PHA gel cleanser
Step 2:
Exfoliate with the ‘Tiptoe In’ PHA exfoliant
Step 3:
Apply a layer (or two thin layers) of the ‘Plump Up’ Peptide + HA serum
Step 4:
Next go in with the 80% Vitamin C ‘Boost Up’ serum
Step 4:
A light layer of the ‘Energise Me’ niacinamide moisturiser
Step 5: Finish up by blending in the BFF SPF Skin Perfector

P/M:

Step 1: Remove all traces of makeup. Cleanse using the ‘Be Your Best’ Enzyme balm
Step 2:
Followed by a second cleanse using the ‘Better Off’ AHA/PHA gel cleanser
Step 3:
Exfoliate using the ‘Tiptoe In’ PHA (only it 4 times a week)
Step 4:
A few pumps of the ‘Plump Up’ Peptide + HA serum
Step 5:
Next using the Overnight Sensation Retinal + serum
Step 6:
Moisturise with the ‘Bounce Back’ Intense Peptide moisturiser (optional)

So, is this one worth the investment? It’s a universal yes from us. As Trinny so rightly puts it: 'moisturisers and cleansers are like the jeans and t-shirt of our skincare wardrobe and serums are the clever uniform that really ups the ante'. I mean- what an analogy from the style guru herself.

The brand's range is growing all the time with new and innovative products added regularly – in fact, this summer Trinny introduced Milly - the latest complex-boosting shade in the Lip2Cheek collection. In July, the brand also launched a T-Brush Set described as 'three multitasking, mistake-proof makeup brushes' and designed by Trinny Woodall herself.
