Serena Williams has confessed that her marriage to Alexis Ohanian is not always 'bliss' — although it can be if the time and effort is put in.

Speaking as part of an IGTV video for Bumble's The Question Game, the 39-year-old tennis champion revealed the secret to her happy marriage with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian — with whom she tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in 2017.

During the rapid-fire Q&A, Williams admitted that it takes 'work' to keep a marriage going, as well as revealing what her relationship dealbreakers are.

'Marriage is not bliss,' she admitted. 'But it can be if you work at it.' She also shared that her relationship dealbreaker is 'definitely loyalty. Well, not having it, that is.'

The 23-time Grand Slam champ married 37-year-old Ohanian in a lavish New Orleans ceremony four years ago, attended by high-profile celebrities such as Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and Anna Wintour — a mere two months after welcoming the couple's daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

Along with sharing her sage wisdom for a broken heart — 'heartbreak is a part of life, whether it be a loved one, a boyfriend, or an animal, but time heals all wounds' — she also admitted in the video that motherhood was always on the cards for her, one way or another.

'I always knew I wanted kids. I never knew when but I always knew I wanted kids at some point,' the mum-of-one revealed, having previously spoken openly about her struggles with post-partum depression, following Alexis' birth in 2017.

Concluded the video by revealing the poignant lesson she's learned about love: 'I learned that love is an amazing feeling. And if you have an opportunity to feel it, then it's a special thing.'
