Selling Sunset stars Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet exchanged vows in an intimate wedding ceremony in October 2019, and it became a huge storyline in the second season of the Netflix reality show. However, just ICYMI, recently unearthed court documents showed that the pair in fact legally tied the knot in a civil ceremony March 2018, prompting some fans to question what's actually real and what's scripted.

But shutting down the gossip, Mary has now insisted that the October 2019 wedding was "absolutely real". "We invited all of our friends and family. We didn’t tell anybody. We just signed the paper for personal reasons and then we wanted to wait until we could have our real wedding," she told Fubar Radio this week.

"Romain’s never been married before. A wedding didn’t mean that much to me. I was happy to just go on a beach in Bali and I tried very hard to do that actually. No cameras, no anything, just our closest friends."

Explaining the delay between the civil ceremony and the wedding, she said it was all down to logistics because she had to work the date around her friends.

"Two of my really close friends, Nicole who was the officiant and who signed as the witness, she was trying to get pregnant and then one of my other friends were too, and they can’t go, so I was like, I don’t want to do that," Mary said. "And so we just waited until we could plan and do the wedding like we wanted.”

Mary said they would never have invited their families to the wedding if they were faking it. "It’s not that big of a deal," she went on. "They’re like, ‘the show’s fake, this is all fake’. We’re like, what are you talking about? You see all of our family! How can you fake that? That was our wedding! People sign a certificate all the time before they do their actual wedding."

Mary's comments come just weeks after Chrishell hit back at claims she isn't a real estate agent after some questioned whether she was introduced to Selling Sunset in a bid to cause drama, and to stir up storylines in The Oppenheim Group estate agent group.

The actor/estate agent took to Instagram Stories to re-share a 2016 Instagram post about her real estate business, Chrishell Realty, with a defiant message alongside it.

She added on Stories, "People keep trying to hate on the show, which means it's a huge success! Lol!. This post is still on my IG proving I have been licensed and working before being approached about #SellingSunset.

"Working all day showing clients properties in the heat & writing up my new listing to hit the market tomorrow! Busy! Thanks for watching though."

So that's that, guys.
