The Secret She Keeps episode one divides viewers
Warning: This article contains spoilers for episode one of The Secret She Keeps.
BBC1's Australian psychological thriller The Secret She Keeps arrived on our small screens on Monday night (6 July), leaving some viewers divided.
The six-part series, adapted from the novel by Michael Robotham, follows two heavily pregnant women with the same due date but leading very different lives in Sydney. Wealthy blogger Meghan (Jessica De Gouw) is expecting her third child with her distracted husband Jack (Michael Dorman), while Aggie (Downton's Laura Carmichael) is about to welcome her first child with an estranged partner stationed oversees.
Aggie is traumatised after previously losing a child, and is struggling to pay her rent working at a local convenience store. She's beginning to show signs of an unhealthy interest in Meghan, who admits that baby number three was an accident but is desperate to keep her husband and family happy.
The end of the episode exposed Aggie as faking her pregnancy after she privately unveiled a bump she'd been wearing under her clothes.
Some viewers claimed they saw the twist coming minutes into the first episode, but lots said they were already hooked on the drama and couldn't wait to find out what happens next.
One viewer wrote: "I saw the fake pregnancy a mile off, but this could get interesting..."
Another added: "That was quite good and pretty watchable, apart from the plot twist you could see from space."
The surprise at the end of ep 1 #thesecretsshekeeps was obvious about 2 minutes in.

Speaking about what attracted her to the role, Laura explained to the Daily Echo: "[Agatha] is this dark character, but unlike lots of thrillers it really focuses on her emotional journey. So you understood the trauma that she's been through and what has led her to where she is...
"It felt very unique of this genre to have this about two women and their desires to be mothers, and the need to be the perfect mum and how that flipped into being something quite dangerous."
The Secret She Keeps episode 2 airs on BBC1 on Tuesday (7 July) at 9pm. The entire series is available to stream now in BBC iPlayer.
