Will there be a second series of BBC's Time?
On Sunday (June 20) BBC's gripping prison drama, Time, came to a climactic end. With some storylines left open-ended, fans are already wondering if there'll be a second series.
Time starred Line of Duty's Stephen Graham and Game of Thrones' Sean Bean. The three part series followed Mark Cobden (Bean) a former teacher now serving time for death by dangerous driving, and prison guard Eric McNally (Graham).
Throughout the show, we watch as Cobden navigates life as a new inmate, while McNally is blackmailed by prisoners who threaten his son's safety (his son is serving time at another prison). By the end of the series, the tables have turned for the two protagonists – while Cobden is released, McNally finds himself behind bars after smuggling drugs into the prison to protect his son.
Despite Time being billed as a limited series, viewers quickly took to socials after the finale to suss out the prospect of a second season. After all, who doesn't want to know what happens to McNally as he navigates his own way through the prison system as an inmate?

Ahead of the first series, both Graham and Bean expressed their excitement at working together again, and with show's creator, Jimmy McGovern. "To be involved in a Jimmy McGovern drama again is a real privilege and it will be great to be reunited with Stephen," said Bean (via Radio Times).
Similarly, Graham said "It is an absolute honour to be working with Jimmy again, I’m feeling blessed," (via Radio Times). It's safe to assume then that both lead actors would be keen for a second series, if it were on the cards.

Unfortunately, neither the BBC or McGovern have dropped any suggestions about the show returning to screens. But, given that the series racked up 8.4 million views in its first week (making it the BBC's biggest new drama of 2021), there's still hope yet.
