Netflix confirms future of The Diplomat
Our latest Netflix obsession is easily the latest political thriller, The Diplomat. The eight-part series follows Kate Wyler, played by Keri Russell, a newly appointed US diplomat in the UK who is tasked with solving several international crises.
There are tonnes of twists, turns and enough drama to send you dizzy and with that cliff-hanger in mind, fans are already itching for a second season. So, will there be one? Here’s everything we know so far.
Will there be a season 2 of The Diplomat?
Good news, season two of The Diplomat is coming! Netflix usually waits a while to confirm whether another instalment is on the cards, but given the success of the series, they confirmed on 1st May that a second season is on its way.
Keri Russell, who stars and is an executive producer, told Tudum, “I am thrilled to be headed back for another round of this smart screwball show. Dare I say it’s fun?”
“We had such a great time making The Diplomat. And it’s a thrill to see how much people are enjoying it,” says series creator Debora Cahn. “We’re so glad we get to do it again.”
What could happen on The Diplomat season 2?
After what went down during that epic finale – which we’ve explained here, BTW – we can expect season two of The Diplomatic to deal with the messy aftermath as Kate tries to prevent international crisis and the potential of a world war. We might also find out whether Grove, Ronnie, Heyford and Hal survived the explosion and what the status of Kate and Hal's marriage will be. Come on Netflix, we need answers!
Who might the cast of The Diplomat season 2 be?
As Netflix renew The Diplomat, we'd love to see the entire cast to return, including:
Keri Russell as Kate Wyler
Rufus Sewell as Hal Wyler
David Gyasi as Dennison
Ali Ahn as Eidra Park
Rory Kinnear as Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge
Ato Essandoh as Stuart Heyford
But depending on who survives the car explosion, we might not get to see all of the cast return. Keeping our fingers crossed!
The Diplomat is streaming on Netflix now.
