Another day, another Harlan Coben Netflix drama we're all obsessed with. This time it's Stay Close, an eight-part adaptation of the best selling mystery novel of the same name. Since it dropped on the streaming service at the end of December, all fans can talk about is whether there will be another series of the show. So, here's what we know about a potential Stay Close season two, from release date to cast and potential plot lines.

Has Stay Close season two been announced?

Sadly, no. After the first season dropped on Netflix on 31st December 2021, there's been no word about a potential follow-up. Author Harlan Coben has also never developed a second series of his Netflix shows - despite the comparable success of Safe, which was released in 2018, and The Stranger, which came out in 2020.

All is not lost, though. Back in 2018, he signed a five-year deal with Netflix to turn a whole selection of his novels into Netflix Original productions, with reports suggesting there are six more (!) adaptations to come. So while it's not a sequel, it might hopefully scratch the mystery itch.

What happens at the end of Stay Close season one?

In the final episode, viewers discover Lorraine (Sarah Parrish) is the person behind all the killings, committing to murdering one man a year after she was trapped in an abusive relationship. The first person she killed was Stewart Green, who was obsessed with Cassie, the pseudonym of Megan.

Lorraine then leads Megan to the woods to see his body, thinking it would set her free - but it actually spooks her, prompting her to run away. When Ray sees Stewart's body, he disposes of it in an attempt to protect Megan - hence the flashbacks of him covered in blood.

At the end, we discover why Carlton's body was never found: Dave had unknowingly drowned him in the boot of the car when he pushed it into the lake. Lorraine eventually takes the fall for Carlton's death, knowing she was going to prison anyway and deciding to protect the girls instead. But now Megan's worked out what Dave did, will their relationship be the same?

What have the cast said about Stay Close season two?

Richard Armitage, who plays Ray, is enthusiastic about the potential for a season two. "You don’t see him in the car, you don’t actually see the thing happen; it’s all in the viewer’s imagination," he told the Radio Times. "And of course, he doesn’t know what he’s done either, which I think is another brilliant opener for maybe Stay Close 2 – who knows?”

Bethany Antonia, who plays daughter Kayleigh, added that season two could start with a time-jump. "I think that it will come back to haunt them, but in a long time,” Antonia theorises. “It will be Kayleigh’s wedding when she’s like 35, and then she’ll see a yellow car and it will bring back all the memories.”
