Fans of Netflix's The Irregulars will desperately be wondering if there's going to be a second instalment of the Sherlock Holmes spin-off.

The show follows a group of "troubled street teens" up against supernatural forces, as they attempt to solve a series of mysteries in order to protect London. They inhabit 221B Baker Street, hence the Sherlock link, and the private detective occasionally employs them to gain information he wouldn't normally have access to.

Now that the first series of the Netflix original has dropped, here's what you need to now about a potential follow up.

Will there be a second series of Netflix's The Irregulars?

Sadly Netflix haven't confirmed anything, but Newsweek, reports the second season is tipped to start filming in Liverpool this summer. Creator Tom Bidwell also told Radio Times that the cast and crew were keen to make more, commenting, "Season two, season three, we’d love to do if we get a chance.

"There’s almost too much story in season one! We certainly had to move some out of season one to kind of make space. So yeah, if we, if we’re allowed to come back, we will hit the ground running for sure."

Who will star in Netflix's The Irregulars series two?

As it hasn't been confirmed, we can't say for sure - but you can assume the majority of the cast from season one will play a part. That means Thaddea Graham (Curfew, Letter for the King) could reprise the role of Bea, Darci Shaw (Judy, The Bay) as her younger sister Jessie, Jojo Macari as Billy, McKell David as Spike and Harrison Osterfield as Leopald.

Royce Pierreson, who plays Dr Watson, has also expressed his interest in reprising the role. "I would love to," he said. "I think it sets up perfectly. I mean, there’s so much in this season, Tom gets so much into it. But I think that’s so we can go so much further. I love playing Watson. There’s so much more I want to do with them. Yeah, sign me up."

What's less clear is whether Henry Lloyd-Hughes (The Inbetweeners, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) will return as Sherlock, as the finale saw him sent to another dimension with his partner Alice (Eileen O’Higgins).

What could happen in Netflix's The Irregulars season two?

So many theories! Some predictions include:

  • More details about Leopold aka Prince Leopold, son of Queen Victoria, and plot lines around the Royal family. What goes on in the higher society of The Irregulars?

  • What happens next with Sherlock? Where actually is Sherlock? What ~really~ goes on inside the other dimension - do The Irregulars end up there too?

When is Netflix's The Irregulars season two released?

As it hasn't been confirmed yet, filming hasn't started and a release date is unlikely. But if rumours about filming starting in summer 2021 are correct, fans can have their fingers crossed for a follow up in 2022.
