Flytippers have been branded “scumbags” after a 20ft-high mountain of rubbish was dumped on a country lane.

The pile of waste which blocked the entire road includes household insulation, plastic, clothing, a deflated football and even a police cordon line.

South Kesteven District Council are hunting the culprits after they discovered the “disgusting” pile of rotting rubbish near Sleaford, Lincs.

Cabinet Member for Commercial and Operations, Dr Peter Moseley, said “This is the largest fly-tip I have ever seen.

“It is an example of appalling antisocial behaviour and disrespect for both our environment and local residents.

“If we can bring people to account for this despicable act against our countryside, I hope the legal process will support our aim to stamp this out by issuing the most severe penalty available.”

Residents expressed their anger at the mess after shocking pictures of the rubbish were posted on social media.

Arthur Fox said: “Scumbags like this need jailing. No silly fines. This isn’t chucking a crisp wrapper out the car window, this is industrial-scale littering. It must be at least 20ft high. Chuck them in prison.”

Writing on Facebook, Malcolm Bond said: “£50,000 maximum fine needed for the perp.”

Keith Green added: “Should dump the owner in it as well.”

Robert Cassidy wrote: “That looks to me like it’s been tipped from a walking floor trailer.

“I would say this is organised crime. I would suggest look at CCTV for a walking floor artic trailer truck.

“It will just look like a box trailer. I would say the amount of rubbish there it will be a 40 foot trailer.”

Boston Borough Council have revealed fly-tipping cases in their area have more than doubled during the lockdown period.

There were 798 cases between March and the end of June this year compared with 342 during the same period last year.

Rubbish dumps were allowed to open from the start of May after being closed for almost two months due to coronavirus lockdown measures.
