Scottish Wildcats To Celebrate Burns Night In New Enclosure

These Scottish wildcats may have left their natural habitat in Scotland, but they are still set on having a roaring Burns Night this 25 January. Sisters Heather and Thistle are delighted with their new home at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis in Cumbria, England. From afar these feisty felines may look like domestic cats but are twice the size and boast marked thick coats, long ringed tails - and a wild nature to match! Sadly they are endangered in the wild having been wiped out in England and Wales. Under 300 are left in the Scottish Highlands - their last redoubt in the UK. However, they are part of a conservation breeding programme to save the species and will be joined by a genetically-approved male later in the year for breeding purposes.
