All Scotland bank holiday dates for 2025 to look forward to - full list

With 2024 coming to a close, many will be wondering when they can look forward to a day off in 2025.

A new year brings a new set of bank holidays, a time when people can enjoy a free day to do whatever they please. With the next one falling on New Year's Day, this is followed by eight more dotted throughout the year.

These holidays are the same across Scotland and differ to public or local holidays, which are set out by local councils and can differ from place to place.

It's important to remember that not everyone is entitled to payments on bank holidays and some may still have to work that day. Those who are uncertain about this are advised to check such conditions with their employer.

There is no law that that requires banks or any other businesses to close on bank holidays. Banks in Scotland do not always close on Scottish bank holidays, which tend to close the same days as banks in England and Wales.

If a bank holiday falls on a weekend date, it will be carried over to a substitute week day - usually the following Monday.

Scots planning on getting out for a walk on New Year's Day should know that the latest weather maps indicate a massive snow front arriving to the northern part of the country before January 1.

Similarly, the Met Office anticipates a change to more "unsettled" conditions, including snow falling on Tuesday that is to become more "severe" throughout the week.
