With a brief flashback to after-school TV marathons of Get Your Own Back or the Nickelodeon Teen Choice Awards, last night at the 2021 MTV Movie and TV awards Scarlett Johansson was the recipient of an important gong and was 'gunged' (or 'slimed' for our American readers), accordingly.
The Black Widow star was named the winner of this year's Generation Award, which according to MTV 'celebrates beloved actors whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names'. Previous winners have included Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Reese Witherspoon and Will Smith.
Accepting the award virtually, Johansson thanked everyone she has worked with over the last 30 years as an actor, and her fans for 'riding the wave with me and supporting my career'.
However, one minute and 30 seconds into her speech, her husband, the Saturday Night Live writer and cast member Colin Jost, appeared.
Aww you might be thinking. He came out to support his wife join her for a rare public appearance in honour of her big award.
Instead, Jost came into the camera shot carrying a green bowl of 'gunge' or 'slime' and proceeded to pour it over his wife's head in true MTV Movie and TV Awards chaotic fashion.
'What the f***?' Johansson jokingly yelled at her spouse. 'MTV, you get slimed,' he retorted before the Oscar-nominated actress reminded him that happened at the Nickelodeon Teen Choice awards instead.
'Oh sh*t,' replied Jost. 'I'm very, very sorry... I'll get a towel... love you', he said to an unimpressed Johansson.
The couple, who met via the sketch show, married in October with a small, socially distanced ceremony.
