Sarah Jessica Parker stuns in our partywear trend of the season
Sarah Jessica Parker has given us a masterclass in one of this season's most festive fashion trends: sequin fringing.
The And Just Like That star stunned on the red carpet of the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last night (Thursday 12 December), wearing a silver, gold and bronze ombré dress that tightly fitted her figure before the skirt fell away into shimmering strips.
SJP accessorised with strappy gold heels, a statement gold ear climber and a glittering brown handbag. She kept her makeup natural so as not to compete with her show-stopping metallic dress, and her long blonde hair softly fell in bouncy waves over one shoulder.
Perfect for swishing about on the dance floor over Christmas and New Year's Eve, there are plenty of pretty sequin fringe dresses, skirts and cover-ups in the shops right now – and clearly, Carrie Bradshaw approves.
Fringing in general has been big this autumn/winter, off the back of recent boho and Western-inspired runway shows, so we're loving its disco-ball December refresh. Though obviously perfect for parties, you can also dress the sequin fringe trend down, high/low style, by pairing it with a cosy knit and knee-high boots.
Marks & Spencer has made our hero high-street style – a sparkling silver skirt that's been all over our Instagrams feeds this month, and is mostly still in stock at the time of writing. "Wear it to bring some fizz to a simple tux jacket, then layer up the shine with silver mules and a kitsch beaded bag," says our Fashion Director, Oonagh Brennan.

Other sequin fringe pieces we love come courtesy of & Other Stories (a chocolate-brown midi skirt that's currently on sale); Mint Velvet (a black or silver shrug embellished with giant silver sequins); and H&M (cool-girl black trousers for a party dress alternative). Marks & Spencer's mini shift dress is proving popular too.
Not just for Christmas, you'll also catch us making like fashion editors and rocking an unexpected sequin next spring/summer, most likely with a denim jacket or jeans a la Claudia Winkleman's stylist, Sinead McKeefry. "I know it's not for everyone, but for those who are a bit more avant-garde in their styling, sequins can look really good with denim in summer," she told Red recently.
"Yes, there are some clothes that are very clearly Christmas clothes – a red sparkly dress might be hard to transfer to a lunch date in June – but if you stick to those lovely champagne, cream and ballet tones you can mix them in throughout the year."
