Sarah Harding says new hair was inspired by Lady Gaga - EXCLUSIVE

Former Girls Aloud star cites US singer as reason behind her edgy new hairstyle – in time for her new solo material

She's admitted to us that her new chop means now she doesn't need to have botox.

But it seems there's another reason why Sarah Harding has cut herself an edgy new fringe - and her unlikely style inspiration was a Lady Gaga hair-do.

“It was just time for a complete image overhaul. I’m a bit of a chameleon when it comes to my hair. I wanted something a bit edgier,” she said.

“In my studio, I’ve got a picture of Lady Gaga and I just loved it, she looked fierce, like a proper little rock chick.”

The 32-year-old singer – who recently announced a one-off charity gig to showcase her new solo material - uses a combination of salt spray and sulphate-free treatments to keep her blonde locks in tip-top condition.

“I’ve got a [Percy and Reed] texturizing salt spray that I didn’t mean to use – I turned the shower on and it squirted on my face!” she said.

“My hair is naturally quite wavy. I just decided to punk it up a bit. I use a bit of a mixture of stuff with my hair really. I use the Phyto range, with no sulphates. If it’s not that, I usually go with Redken.”

She also added that she likes to use a hair mask on her locks as it’s prone to breakages from being artificialy coloured.

“When my hair’s this blonde, it’s more prone to breakages so I have to always put a good treatment on it,” she said.

But when she’s lazing around the house with her DJ boyfriend, Sarah refuses to use any products on her hair and simply scrapes it up into a ponytail.

“When I’m at home, I normally just scrape it back off my face. I don’t overly style it myself when I’m not working – I’m quite natural when I’m not working,” she revealed.

Beauty-wise, Sarah admitted there’s one brand she’s particularly loyal to (and we reckon most of us are too!)

“I’m a MAC queen! I love it in there. I’m terrible, if you get me in the Selfridges Beauty Hall, I’m like a magpie!” she said.

“I just love products. I did hair and beauty when I was at college, I got my NVQ – I was a beauty school drop-out! I know a thing or two.”

She also added that drinking lots of water keeps her skin, nails and hair healthy.

“I think drinking lots of water makes a big difference, keeping yourself hydrated,” she said.

Sarah is currently the face of FaceB4, the UK’s 'most effective anti-bacterial face wash'.

Sarah, who spoke out about suffering from bad skin in the past, has joined forces with the brand to promote the importance of clean, healthy skin.

“Working on the road and trying to take care of yourself is hard, for me keeping myself active and healthy is a must and that means my skin too," she said.

"I never go to bed in my make-up and that’s why the FaceB4 anti-bacterial face wash suits me, not only does it remove any make-up but it gives my skin that squeaky clean feeling which I love."
