The 2020 Oscars was a night of notable hair transformations, with Olivia Colman sporting a new peroxide blonde colour and Saoirse Ronan debuting a delicate fringe.
The actress, who unexpectedly missed out on a Best Actress win, looked the epitome of elegance in a peplum Gucci gown, with butterfly clips by the fashion house adorning her hair.
Visionary hairstylist – and longterm collaborator with Ronan – Adir Abergel was the hands behind the actress' makeover.
He explained of the hairstyle, "Saoirse’s look was a simple swept-back up-do, twisted into a chignon with baby bangs across the forehead and detailed with beautiful, custom-made jewelled bee accessories. The baby bangs were cut the day of and were inspired by early Audrey Hepburn, and the micro bangs we’ve been seeing on the runway in recent seasons.
"The look is sophisticated, minimal, airy, and very feminine."
Should you want to emulate her style, Abergel recommends asking for a short fringe that had softness and choppiness to it. For the up-do, he prepped the hair with Virtue Volumizing Primer. Next, he dried the fringe area first, on medium heat with a classic styling brush, ensuring the ends were a little bit curved. He then took a big round brush and blow-dried the rest of the hair giving it volume, softness and movement.
To create some structure to the hair, the stylist applied Virtue Lifting Powder at the root. Then, he pulled the hair away from the fringe into a chignon anchored right below the crown and secured it with a few bobby pins. To finish the look, Abergel applied the Gucci bee pins.
