Back in August, Netflix's The Sandman dropped on the streaming platform, and fans found themselves gripped by the new fantasy horror, with many already calling for a season two.

Adapted from Neil Gaiman's graphic novel, The Sandman's official synopsis reads: "A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he's made during his vast existence."

Yep, there's some dark stuff going on, and viewers are keen to see what happens next in a potential second series. Here's what we know about The Sandman season two so far...

Has The Sandman season 2 been confirmed?

Er, kind of. Three months after the show dropped (5th August), the official DC Comics Twitter account apparently confirmed another series would be happening, but then deleted the tweet. According to Deadline the tweet read: "The dream continues. [The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless."

Back in August, The Sandman's author took to Twitter to respond to questions over why Netflix hasn't yet announced a second season. "Because Sandman is a really expensive show. And for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season we have to perform incredibly well. So yes, we've been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough."

Hmm.

Who might star in The Sandman season 2?

Of course, if series two happens, it wouldn't be anything without the show's core cast. Names we'd expect to return include Tom Sturridge as Dream, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer.

Then there's Mason Alexander Park and Donna Preston as Desire and Despair, plus Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, and Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine.

Depending on where the plot takes us, there could well be some new faces joining the case too. Watch this space.

When might The Sandman season 2 be released?

We'll have to wait for The Sandman season two to be confirmed before there's any intel on a release date.

Season one was first announced all the way back in 2019, only premiering on Netflix in August 2022. However, there were pandemic delays to take into account - so we'd hope production would be faster on a potential season two. Fingers crossed for more updates soon!
