Sam Smith wore lace and silk lingerie for the Attitude Awards ceremony on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old singer, who prefers to be referred to by gender-neutral pronouns “they” and “their”, was awarded the Attitude Person of the Year award at the London event.
They wore a forest green silk negligee paired with a lace robe and matching loungewear trousers. On their feet, they wore black platform heeled boots – which look like the same Gucci pair they wore to the 2019 GQ Awards.
The glamorous look was completed with winged black eyeliner and a clear lip gloss.
Smith later shared the outfit on Instagram, captioning the image: “I went to an award show in my underwear last night”.
Smith’s followers appeared to approve of outfit: the post has received almost 400,000 likes at times of writing.
Comments included: “Love love loveeee”, “This gives me LIFEEEE!”, “iconic” and “You are my favourite kind of diva”.
Smith’s lingerie is from Menagerie, a line of “intimates and formal nightwear designer for male form”.
According to the brand’s Instagram account, it is “reclaiming a man’s right to adornment and beauty in fashion”.
This isn’t the first time Smith has experimented with breaking gendered fashion norms.
Last month, they wore a pair of heeled Shaun Ross x United Nude Limited Edition Collaboration Boots at the premiere of ‘Judy’ in Beverly Hills.
Keen to show them off, Smith took to Instagram to share a clip of themselves strutting away in the killer look.
