Torrential rain yesterday (August 26) caused havoc to many shops in Bristol - with Sainsbury’s and Lidl among those to keep stores shut today for repairs.

Water came through the ceiling of several connected shops in Avonmeads Retail Park, while Sainbury’s store in Castle Court and House of Fraser at Cabot Circus were also impacted.

At Ten Pin in Avonmeads, footage shared online also showed water coming down on to the bowling alleys.

The situation appeared more serious at Lidl in Avonmeads, where parts of the ceiling also came down around the self-service check-outs.

Shoppers were evacuated from the stores as the downpour caused severe damage to the buildings. Nearby roads were also impacted - although it has mostly cleared overnight.

However, Sainsbury’s in Castle Court is closed today for repairs. Lidl in Avonmeads is also shut as work begins to clear-up the damage.
