With things finally starting to get back to normal after one hell of a year and a bit, Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is keen to welcome tourists and locals alike back in to London for his latest campaign, London Eats.

The London Eats campaign celebrates the very best culinary delights central London has to offer – from cheap street food eats to fine dining, and food markets to drinks festivals – there’s something for everyone; especially those with a healthy appetite.

“We’ve been working with some of our favourite chefs and hospitality venues, who are uniting to promote the industry and encourage Londoners and visitors to explore some hidden gems and delicious things about the city,” the Mayor of London tells Delish.

“We’ve got 16 Londoners – some, ordinary Londoners and some like MasterChef judge Monica Galetti, Michelin-Starred chefs like Angela Hartnett, and many others – sharing some of their favourite secret bars, restaurants and food spots in London.

“The idea is that this spring and summer is the only time when there aren’t any international tourists in London, so there won’t be any queuing; no need to book weeks and weeks in advance. You can enjoy our city like a VIP tourist.”

Lockdown has hit the hospitality industry like no other sector, so London Eats will help the 300,000 who lost their jobs and the more than a million furloughed in the UK a chance to get back on their feet.

When asked where his favourite food spots in London are and where he's keen to get back to, he tells us: “I’ve been through most of my favourites today already! I had breakfast at Dishoom, then brunch at Dumplings Legend in China Town. I actually made a few dumplings and Monica thought they were alright – she wasn’t too beastly towards me like she is on MasterChef! Now I’m in Mildreds – a great vegan restaurant – having an early lunch with Bimini Bon Boulash [the star of Season 2 of Ru Paul's Drag Race UK]."

Sadiq adds, “The great thing about London is, no matter what your palette is, you can have great food. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, kosher, halal, whatever, you can get it all in London. Whether that’s New York style brunches, Japanese hot stone cooking, bao buns, pasta, fish and chips – we’ve got it all. You can go round the world in one day.”
