Before the Netflix show Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, there was another programme all about a certain blonde, teenage witch: Sabrina The Teenage Witch. First airing on ABC back in September 1996, it went on to be picked up by Nickelodeon and spanned seven seasons (the latter of which focussed on Sabrina Spellman's time at college and subsequent career as a journalist).

The titular character of Sabrina was played by actress Melissa Joan Hart, who won the role whilst studying at New York University (which she dropped out of to take it on) – and if you were a kid of the 90s, there was nobody cooler.

With a little help from her sidekick Salem (voiced by Nick Bakay), boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle (Nate Richert), and nemesis, Libby Chessler (played by Jenna Leigh Green), Sabrina's journey of grappling with her newly unearthed powers seamlessly combined humour, magic and iconic 90s fashion lewks. Although it's been seventeen years since it ended (wow, that makes us feel old!), we're still just as obsessed.

Here's what the cast have been getting up to in more recent years...

1. MELISSA JOAN HART (Sabrina Spellman)

Melissa, now aged 44, was already a 90s icon when Sabrina first aired thanks to her turn in Clarissa Explains It All from 1991 to 1995. From 1996 on, she played Sabrina Spellman for seven seasons, a couple of TV films and a cartoon series, before saying goodbye to the character in 2003. Oh, and during this time, she also starred in the cult Britney Spears-influenced teen movie Drive Me Crazy.

In 2009, Melissa tried her hand at launching a candy business, named SweetHarts (geddit?), which closed permanently in 2015. As for acting, by 2010 she was ready to return to the sitcom world with Melissa and Joey (about a woman who hires a nanny to help care for her sister's children whilst she's in jail), which concluded in 2015 after four seasons. Her most recent role? The voice of Mrs Becca Chang in the animated series, The Casagrandes.

Judging by Melissa's social media accounts, it also looks as though she's also got her hands well and truly full raising her three sons (who she shares with musician Mark Wilkerson), Mason, Tucker and Braydon. She describes motherhood in her Twitter bio as "my favorite role yet!".

2. NICK BAKAY (Salem Saberhagen)

Salem the cat, the Spellman family's lovable feline (who more often than not dolled out bad advice to the teen witch), was voiced by Nick Bakay – who also wrote several episodes of the Sabrina The Teenage Witch series and its cartoon spinoff (not bad for a pet, eh?). Nick is also known for voicing Norbert in The Angry Beavers, and later co-wrote Paul Blart: Mall Cop and its sequel. We'll let you decide whether that's a good thing or not...

In more recent years, he's popped up in various TV shows including King of Queens, Ellen and Mom and according to his Instagram page, is available to hire for Cameo videos (think personalised birthday messages).

3. CAROLINE RHEA (Hilda Spellman)

After playing Sabrina's fun-loving aunt Hilda in all seven seasons, Caroline hosted reality show The Biggest Loser for three seasons until replaced by Alison Sweeney. She later voiced Linda Flynn-Fletcher in 201 episodes of Phineas and Ferb from 2007 to 2015. Most recently she's appeared in an episode of 2 Broke Girls and two episodes of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, reprising her old role of Aunt Hilda.

4. BETH BRODERICK (Zelda Spellman)

Beth played brainy aunt Zelda for the first six seasons before the character sacrificed her adult years to bring Sabrina back to life, and thus became a child again (you had to be there).

Since then Beth has acted consistently, playing Kate's estranged mother in Lost, and as Rose in Under the Dome. In 2014, she reunited with Melissa Joan Hart in a couple of episodes of her sitcom Melissa & Joey (see below) and in 2018 played Annie B in Sharp Objects.

5. NATE RICHERT (Harvey Kinkle)

Ah, Sabrina's one true love. Playing hapless Harvey in Sabrina remains Nate's biggest role to date and after the show wrapped, he turned his attentions to music. Nate released his debut album of vintage folk titled Halogen Moon in 2012.

6. JENNA LEIGH GREEN (Libby Chessler)

Jenna played Sabrina's snobby cheerleader enemy Libby for the first three seasons before vanishing for good. She has since focused mostly on theatre work, and appeared in Wicked on Broadway for several years in the mid-2000s. On TV, she has featured in episodes of Bones, Castle, Cold Case and mini series, The Loudest Voice, among others.

7. MICHELLE BEAUDOIN (Jenny Kelley)

You may remember Michelle as Sabrina's BFF Jenny in the first season before she left the show and was never mentioned or heard from ever again. She later claimed: "I was told at the end of the first hiatus that they weren't bringing Jenny back. I was told by my agent that they wanted to have an 'ethnic' friend but in the end they had Valerie who was hardly 'ethnic' so who knows. The mysteries of magic." After appearing in a few TV shows and indie films, Michelle seems to have quit show business in 2005.

8. SOLEIL MOON FRYE (Roxie King)

Soleil played foster child Punky in Punky Brewster when she was seven years old (*side note: a follow up to which is currently in the works!), before landing the role as Sabrina's college roommate. You might also remember her as the cute short girl who keeps punching Joey in Friends. Since then, she's focused mainly on voice work including The Proud Family and Planet Sheen.

It appears that Soleil is also still the best of chums with Melissa Joan Hart too, who posted an adorable birthday tribute to her last summer. "Happiest of birthdays to my lifelong friend," she wrote. "From auditions at the age of 6 to weddings, babies, tv shows, commercial gigs, premieres, lakelife, parties and sleepovers we have made a lifetime of memories already with a lifetime more to go! Love you @moonfrye! ❤️❤️❤️ ".

8. PAUL FEIG (Mr Pool)

Yep, the man who eventually directed Bridesmaids and the Ghostbusters reboot once played Sabrina's favourite teacher. In case you didn't know, Paul also co-created cult comedy Freaks and Geeks, and directed episodes of The Office, Arrested Development and Mad Men among others. More recently, he produced A Simple Favour, starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

9. LINDSAY SLOANE (Valerie Birkhead)

Lindsay appeared in the second and third seasons of Sabrina as the witch's shy friend at high school. Since then, she has appeared in loads of TV shows and films including Entourage, The West Wing, Bring It On, She's Out of My League and The Other Guys. Roles you might remember include Charlie Day's girlfriend in Horrible Bosses and its sequel, Ted's blind date Jen in How I Met Your Mother and Emily in The Odd Couple.

10. DAVID LASCHER (Josh Blackhart)

After playing Josh for seasons 4 to 6 (sadly not the same Josh he played in Clueless), David quit acting in 1999. However, he made a surprise comeback in 2014 – reuniting with Melissa Joan Hart in Melissa & Joey, along with...

11. ELISA DONOVAN (Morgan Cavanaugh)

Since playing the shallow friend of Sabrina from season five onwards, Elisa has mostly appeared in indie and made-for-TV films, including four The Dog Who Saved... movies. As mentioned above, she later reunited with Melissa Joan Hart and David Lascher (whom her character dated on the show) in an episode of Melissa & Joey in 2014.

12. TREVOR LISSAUER (Miles Goodman)

Trevor played conspiracy theorist Miles during Sabrina's college years in seasons five and six. This is still his biggest role but in 2014 he voiced Jack the Jack Russell in Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever. He's also a member of the bands The Glass Plastiks and Animal Cloud.

13. ALIMI BALLARD (Albert the Quizmaster)

Not the pub quiz variety - Albert was like Sabrina's Giles from Buffy in season two. Since then, Alimi played Herbal Thought (what a name) in Dark Angel, and the series regular David Sinclair in Numb3rs from 2005 to 2010. Often playing cops or FBI agents these days, he also had a recurring role in CSI and appeared in episodes of Castle, Bones and Queen of the South.

He's also well worth a follow over on Instagram, where he regularly shows off his stunning taste in memes and recently revealed he's a fan of another magical realm by sporting a Harry Potter t-shirt:

14. DYLAN NEAL (Aaron Jacobs)

Dylan was already known for regular roles in The Bold and the Beautiful and Dawson's Creek before playing Sabrina's jilted groom in the final season. Since then, he's probably best known for playing Professor Ivo in Arrow, and played Anastasia's stepfather in Fifty Shades of Grey in 2015.
